Hi! Eric Murcia here with another episode of Tech Tip Tuesday. This week, we’re going to be talking about something that all of us experience. We all probably loathe it equally. That is having to lock our computer when we get up to keep things secure. Keep people from jumping on our computers and impersonating ourselves.
Let Your Phone Do the Work
In this particular episode, we’re going to talk about a really neat feature that’s built into Windows 10 to address this. There’s a lot of different ways we can do this. For a lot of our clients, we have automatic timers put in place. This method is a little more sophisticated. It uses our phone and Bluetooth technology.
This is assuming we have a phone, which who doesn’t these days, and our computer supports Bluetooth. If we click on our Start button inside of Windows 10, type in “settings”, and then click on “Settings”. Go over to “Devices”. Inside of there, we should have this “Bluetooth & other devices” section.
Pair Your Phone
If you’re phone is not paired, we’re going to click on “Add Bluetooth or other device”. (Make sure that Bluetooth is activated on your phone and is in pairing mode.). Then we’re going to click on Bluetooth. It’s going to go out and search for our device. Let’s go ahead and click on that (your device). It’s going to try to make a connection, and should prompt you for a pin. Go ahead and pair that. Now we are connected.
Set Windows Sign-In Options
Once we’re done with that, we’re going to go ahead and click on the “back” button. We’re going to go over to “Accounts”. Inside of here, we’re going to click on “Sign-in options”. Once we’re inside of here, we’re going to scroll down to “Dynamic lock” function. Just put a checkmark here (in “Allow Windows to detect when you’re away and automatically lock the device”). And we are done.
Automatic Windows Locking
Now what this has done is that anytime that our device is away from our computer or a certain distance away from our computer, it’s going to go ahead and lock the computer for us. It’s pretty neat, because if you’re forgetful like I am, you’re never going to have any jokes played on you by your coworkers. Things like sending emails on your behalf with David Hasselhoff pictures because your computer screen is going to be locked. That’s all I have for you this week. I look forward to talking to you again next week.
