Microsoft Office 2019 will be released soon, and several new features are being added. The Commercial Preview has been made available to the public, so you can test out these features for yourself if you’re a volume-licensing customer.
Office 2019 Delivers New Features
According to Jared Spataro, the General Manager for Office, “Office 2019 delivers new features to help end users create amazing content in less time. Updates include new and improved inking features across the apps, like the roaming pencil case, pressure sensitivity, and tilt effects; more powerful data analysis in Excel, like new formulas, new charts, and Power BI integration; and sophisticated presentation features in PowerPoint, like Morph and Zoom.”
1. Excel Offers Improved Data Analysis
Excel remains one of the best tools on the market for data analysis, but the Office 2019 version offers new formulas and more charts, such as funnel charts and 2D maps. PowerPivot and PowerQuery have been improved from the previous version as well. Users of Microsoft’s Power BI service will be able to publish data directly from Excel. If you love Excel, you’re about to love it even more.
2. Outlook Manages Email Better Than Ever
Most of us receive floods of emails on a daily basis. The Office 2019 version of Outlook will help remove some of the problems associated with that, and make managing communication easier than ever. Some of the new features include:
Update contact cards
Office 365 Groups
Travel package cards
3. PowerPoint Is Alive and Well
Multiple presentation solutions are available these days. Older versions of PowerPoint seemed to be a little dated at this point. Microsoft is attempting to breathe new life back into PowerPoint with features like Morph and Zoom. The old standard slides and transitions can be brought to life with the ability to draw your audience in visually.
4. Better Inking Features
These features only benefit Microsoft Surface users or anyone with a drawing tablet. These are devices that allow you to draw right on the screen. The new inking features in Office 2019 introduce pressure sensitivity, tilt effects, and the ability to use the same pen & pencil settings across Office apps.
Microsoft Office 2019 Coming Soon
Microsoft has stated that Office 2019 will be released in the last half of 2018. We’re already over a month into that period, so it could be released at any time. Based on the last Office release, we most likely will see the new software launched in September. The biggest item to note might be that Office 2019 will only run on Windows 10. As discussed in our episode of Tech Tip Tuesday about Windows 7, your organization should be upgrading soon if it hasn’t already. If you need help preparing for that, be sure to let us know.
